start networkmanager during boot?

I have a Compaq Presario V5305WM

I want to use wireless when I startup my PC, before the runlevel 5 login prompt comes up, is there a way to do that?

My network at my home uses WEP 64 bit, because we also have the Nintendo Wii here, which does not support wpa-psk, and my Dell Axim X3i doesn't support wpa either, so I have to use WEP, I don't have a choice.

NetworkManager loads fine after I login, but is there a way to connect before I login to a user account instead?

I use either Gnome or XFCE by default, which is why I'm asking, because sometimes I like to turn on the laptop, then control it using vnc from my desktop because its a larger screen, and I don't want to have to login to a user account on the laptop just to connect to wireless
