Question which fedora cores are compatible with RHEL4?

Hi,

I'm running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 5). I see the rpm's in a lot of repositories are compiled for Fedora core and am wondering which cores are compatible, i.e will rpm's compiled for Fedora core 8 (etc.) work without problems?

Thanks

i'd say rpm's for fedora 5 work with no problems, faily good chance for rpm's for fedora 6 to also work fine, risky with newer fedoras (7, 8).
RHEL release is usually 1 lower than fedora, so release 4 = fedora 5, safe way to know actual RHEL "age" is to look at gnome, kde and kernel versions and compare them with fedora versions.

Thanks. based on the kernal and those packages as reported by http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=fedora and http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=redhat it looks like RHEL4 matches best with Fedora Core 3.

I don't know how far I can safely push that.

Thanks again.

That's probably about right. RHEL 5 is about the same as FC 6.
