SLATTACH in FC-6?

I'm new to Fedora Core and wanted to set up a tunnel using slattach. Discovered my
version of FC-6 doesn't contain the /dev/pty* or tty* 'hooks'. I don't want to use TUN
for this application. Can someone rescue me?

Hi Paul,

It HAS been a long time! We are still fussing with packet. Wanted to try out TNOS 3.0 on FC-6
but running into unanticipated problems. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Hey Jack-

Still fussing with packet here to. In fact, it's packet that's brought me to linux>fedora. Our FL layered packet network has mostly gone to FPAC (was running under DOS, but now ported to Linux). I still maintain two 'old style' eprom based Rose network sites. Pretty much all the rest are now on fpac/linux and have remote internet access Whenever we get inet access for the two I do, they'll go to fpac as well. Needed to learn linux in CLI to ssh in and do the config routing, etc..... ended up being a linux devotee, now using FC6. I spend a lot time on this forum.

Hope someone can help you out here... give 'em time... there's some smart cookies that hang out here. Hey, off topic, but it'll help keep it on the top. Later.. and great to bump into you here.

Hi Jack-

Still no bites on this one. Darn. You got me into doing a brief checkout of tnos 3.0. I see it's available via cvs download from SourceForge. Was also codgetating over your missing /dev/pty* issue. Are you just trying to setup a terminal window in FC6 to talk to a running session of tnos that's running on your local machine, or somewhere else on your network?

I was also wondering if the mknod command might not let you create a /dev/pty* device, though I've never used that function and am not familiar with it's limitations. Is a /dev/pty* something that tnos needs to see/talk to?

Hi Paul,

The scheme for 'nos to talk to the Linux kernel is to use a tunnel between the two. Traditionally
a slip link was used but apparently slip support is being phased out of the newer distributions in
favor of a device called 'TUN'. I was hoping to get some advice on how to re-instate slip but thusfar
nada :-)
