I still have 500MB of free memory but swapping 270MB?

Hello can someone tell me why my Fedora 7 is swapping 270MB but i still have 500MB of free memory...

I have 1024MB of RAM and 2048 swap space...

Is there a way for fedora to use all the memory before swapping?

thanks

What you describe may not be unusual. I don't know much about memory management, but my system is currently using 296 of 1450, and swapping 9MB.

Doesn't make sense to me, either, but I do know that Linux tends to use whatever memory is available whether that memory is allocated or not.

I saw where the problem was.... I disabled readahead_early and readahead_later in the services section... it loads the programs in memory even if i'm not going to use it... Also had a problem with the AGP Graphics Arperture settings in CMOS... yahoo..... now i use less memory and 0 swap!
