This is a simple one.
How can I change the Gnome menu icons?
Bake in the day RH 7 we could change the panel icons to png, gif jpg.
When I try to modify the panel I can't select a bitmap as an icon.

Have you tried installing any icon themes from http://gnome-look.org/ or other such places?
Changing the main menu icon is not that hard... Maybe this will help you to find where to put it in your theme.
Edit: You would have to change the icons of the actual application for it to be changed in the panel.

Thanks
I'll give this a try. Figure: I can set up dns, sendmail, customize java to java 6, wrtie a hit counter in php, cron my access logs to a webpage and I'm having trouble something as simple as this?
What is the attachment a screen shot of?

After re-reading your original post my last brain-cell kicked-in and I asked myself whether you can use bitmaps as icons in Linux (Gnome) I'd always ASSumed it was limited to png or jpg. Can anyone else confirm this? Oh, the screenshot is Nautilus showing what icon is used in the Panel for the Gnome menu.
