Question Display Settings not keeping my configuration selected.

Hi Guys,

I'm wondering if anybody has happened to find a solution to this problem:
Im running FC6, Geforce FX 5200 (installed latest drivers via yum kmod-nvidia).

In Gnome when I try to change the video card (from: "nvidia - Vendor Supplied driver for nvidia cards"
to: "nv - nVidia Riva 128, Riva TNT, Geforce, Nforce, And Quadro cards") using the 'Display Settings' (Hardware tab) I get notified
that the display settings have been updated (/etc/X11/xorg.conf), after I restart my computer, it goes back to the nvidia - Vendor Supplied driver for nvidia cards.

I found this filed as a bug in bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=151904

but havent been able to find a solution or almost any topics on this subject (at least the times I've tried).

Thanks,

Eric

Bless you, I thought I was the only person in the world with this problem! It happened through FC5 and now FC6 with a 7800GT on an NForce 4 chipset. I dont have a solution to why, but I do have a fix. You can "lock" your xorg.conf file along with xorg.conf.backup and xorg.conf.nvidia by using:

chattr +i /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or whatever file you want to lock...)
chattr -i unlocks it.

this will keep the computer from changing this on reboot. You will have a "failed" mark by graphics driver on login, but it doesnt matter.

Now, why on earth do you want the "nv" driver instead of the "nvidia?" This is backwards, it is the "nvidia" that is 3D enabled and is the one you want.

edit: Yeah, on further thought, your computer is doing exactly what you want it to do. You installed the Livna driver and that is the one it is trying to load. Forget all the chattr chatter and just let it load the "nvidia" driver.
