But to be honest, I hope that your backups aren't too old. Don't feel too bad, lots of people have made the same mistake at least once. I used to specialize in that when hard drive space was more expensive. Delete something only to find out a week or two later that I need it again for something.
There are also several reliable third party data recovery options, depending on the value (to you) of the lost files. Prefessional data recovery services and software specifically designed to do this are available. Try googling with: linux undelete file to see what may be worth using for you.
