vnc thru ssh, not working

Hi, I just install a new instance of fedora core 5 , and I try to configure VNC to work with SSH. The VNC works great if I run it directly, also the SSH is connecting OK when using putty from windows, but VNC thru SSH tunneling, it doesn't connect. tried all kind of vncviewers and all the same results. Real VNC says 'The connection closed unexpectedly'.
My sshd_config should be OK with what I read from other posts. I use port 443 and it is
fowarded by my router to my fedora machine. I disabled the fedora firewall.

Somebody has a idea what went wrong ?

Thanks

What is the statement for port forwarding that you are putting into putty? It is not necessary to port-forward 443, unless that is the port that you have sshd set to run on.

Yes I use port 443 to workaround security at work. I do not have problem connecting to my fedora box at home via puTTy...I have 3 fowarding ports defined in puTTy :

L5900 localhost:5900
L5901 localhost:5901
L5902 localhost:5902

when I run REAL vncviewer I enter localhost:5900 or 1 or 2
and I get 'The connection closed unexpectedly'

same thing when I use it for my local network, VNC is working directly but not via SSH..

Thanks

Try changing those settings to L5900 127.0.0.1:5900, ect.
Substitute the loopback address instead of localhost for all three. Also when issueing your vnc command from the viewer (I use tightvnc) I issue 127.0.0.1::5900 instead of localhost.

That is the way mine is set up and it works like a champ.

Glad it worked. I always use mine this way.
