FC5 Total Newbie - could use help
Hello, I just last night switched over from Windows XP to Fedora Core 5. I'm still working on getting everything on my computer up and running...
My current task I'm working on is my TV tuner card... from what I gather, I need to "compile from source" a file called "saa7134"...
I've found the saa7134 file (I think) and I supposably have to compile from source since there's no rpm file for it...
how the heck do I do something from a source

Well, I don't have a TV tuner card, so not much help there but you might want to check out this simple set of instructions: http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/softinstall.html It also might help if you gave people some idea of what the card was and where you got your information on the mysterious 'saa7134'; maybe there's a different way.

I checked out the site and started runing through the process, but when I got to the "./configure" part, I got "bash: ./configure: No such file or directory"

Hmmm... just plugged saa7134 into the 'search' box on the Forum and came up with quite a few different references. Might want to check them out - your answer may be there.

I don't recognize that driver. What type card do you have? If it's supported, I highly recommend ivtv http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Supported_hardware , which can be obtained in package form from atrpms.net. Right now though, the Fedora released kernel is a step ahead of the ivtv rpms at atrpms. Give it a few days, and it'll be caught up.

The TV card I have is a "Dazzle series". And all references I saw to it used the driver I mentioned.

When you downloaded the saa7134 file, was it a tar file? Can you post the link where you downloaded it?

saa7134 driver is included in Fedora Core, you don't need to compile anything. Is it an analog TV or DVB card? Have you tried starting a TV viewing program to see if your card is detected? Try tvtime (in Fedora Core) for analog TV, install Kaffeine from Livna repo for DVB.

It's a TV card, and I tried using TVtime, but had no luck whatsoever, and just got a black screen.

Is there anything I have to do to TVtime to make it see my tv card?

Same card as mine. I get my drivers from Livna. Follow Stan Finley's directions here: http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_cor...es.html#nVidia

Generic instruction for compilation:
1. Download the tarball
2. Decompress and detar it into a directory
3. There usually is some sort of readme file that tells you what to do next.
