Latest Xorg update to FC5 causes CPU usage of 100%

Since updating my FC5 to the latest Xorg + Gnome etal via yum my CPU usage has gone to 100% frequently. The gnome-panel applications after about half an hour (and some usage) flickers constantly and consume 78% CPU. Also running the java swing demo 'java -jar SwingSet2.jar' and selecting the JColorChooser consume 100% CPU. Does anybody have this type of behaviour.

I'm running 2.6.16-1.2096_FC5 kernel, nvidia kmod-nvidia-1.0.8756-1.2.6.16_1.2096_FC5 module, and Inspiron 5150 laptop with 1GB memory.

Any idea what I can try to fix this.
