package manager locked

On a fresh install, open the package manager and I get the following.

Another appliation is currently running which is accessing software information.

Trying from cli says

another app is currently holding the yum lock; waiting for it to exit.

This is on a test box with a fresh install of version f8-rc2-dvd. How do I find what's holding the lock?

edit: found where it said to stop the yum-updatesd and that didn't solve it.

edit2: the process locking it was /usr/libexec/yum-updatesd-helper

usually the system tries to update under more than one method and with f8 it may be using the updater in the background but I'm not so sure since I use the stable f7 of witch requires you to view updates first.
I would use the services tool witch may be in system and then administration then services.

Existing lock /var/run/yum.pid: another copy is running as pid 10836.

Fire a terminal window
kill -9 10836

You have to kill yum-updates-helper also.....

mine says: Existing lock /var run/yum.pid Another copy pid 2642

Went to services and released the yum updatesd .. failed to solve the problem (unless a re-boot is required.)

OK .. that got that portion of the problem!! THANKS

Now tell me why I get an "insert CD" when I try and retrieve software .. either on line or from the add/remove? (this is nuts .. I may blow this install of 8 out and go back to 7, flawed as it is!)

never mind .. found the problem .. the DISK was checked as a source in the Repository manager! DUUUUHHH .. I NEVER did that!

for me restarting yum-updatesd service worked...
