    Thumbs up Fix for MPlayer "Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo)device'

    after installing MPlayer using this how-to:
    http://home.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc4-tips.php
    I got this error message when attempting to load a movie from my web browser. In contrast, downloading the file and launching mplayer at the command line "mplayer movie_file_name.avi" worked fine. the solution was to modify the /home/user/.mplayer/gui.conf file. Specifically changing
    vo_driver = "xvmc"
    to
    vo_driver = "x11"
    as suggested by the faq found here:
    http://home.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc4-tips.php
    and a thread found here:

    I presume you've installed mplayerplug-in. If so, what version are you using?

    Everything is working fine. Sorry my post was not clear (it was 3 in the morning my time). I have fixed this problem and was posting in case my experience might help others.

    Yes! Definitely did! But I'd like to understand the problem, to remember it more easily. What's the change really?
