FC5: HP LaserJet 1320: Bug or Feature?

My JP LaserJet 1320 ran perfectly under FC 4. Now, under FC 5, it runs perfectly, too, but with a little wrinkle. I'm almost embarrassed to mention it, considering some of the other install problems people are having, but here it is:

When I choose 'Print,' the green ready light flashes...then the orange attention light flashes, and the job waits until I press the 'Go' button; then it prints, just perfectly. So is this behavior a feature or a bug? Anyone else have this problem?

    Thanks,
    Mark

I've got a 1320 connected to my network using the built in JetDirect card, I've not experienced this and can print fine. Are you connected via JetDirect or USB?

Are you trying to print A4 or US Letter pages.

If you send the wrong format of page, the printer may pause until you press Go to confirm the print.

This is by far and away the most common cause of "Printer won't print until I press the Go button" issues.

It's also possible to get the first page of a document printed using manual fed paper (letter head or similar). In this instance you would manually feed the letterhead, press go, it prints the first page on the letterhead, then prints the rest of the document from the internal tray.

    Cheers

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies. My printer is attached USB. I found a quick solution (workaround?). The preferred driver is Postscript, and that's what displays this behavior. I checked, and the paper sizes are all consistent (US Letter). When I switch the driver to hpijs, the behavior goes away, and the printer is copacetic. Go figure. At least I'm not having to press 'Go' every time I want to print (I always do a lot of printing when I'm polishing a new FC install...gotta print out those guides, etc. ). However, in the long run, I'd prefer to use the 'preferred' driver, so I'm going to have to figure out what is going on.

Thanks again, and if you have any ideas, I am more than happy to hear them

Hello. I've got a HP LaserJet 3052 with teh exact same problem. Changing the driver did help, put as I understood the postscript one is much better.

Have you found any solution for this?

    I'm using FC6.

    Thanks a lot!

Hello, guys. Just solved the issue with hplip-list help!

Here´s the solution for my HP Laserjet 3052:

You may try modifying the ppd file to see if this works:

edit the file /etc/cups/ppd/HP_LaserJet_3052.ppd - you must be root or sudo to modify this file
    search for MediaPosition
you will see a line like this: *InputSlot Tray1/Tray 1: "<<ManualFeed false /MediaPosition 3>> setpagedevice"
in this line, replace 3 with 7, save the file and try printing again.

Input source 3, which is what the PostScript ppd is setting it to when you select Tray 1, means Manual Envolope tray,
Input source 7, which is what you changed it to now (and what HPIJS ppd uses for default) means Automatic Tray Selection, i.e., the printer uses whatever is set as default, in this case, the lower tray (tray 2, tray 1 being the manual envolope feed tray).
With this settings, if you change the default settings from the front panel (if applicable), then that setting will take effect.

It explains why some people are getting it to work with the HPIJS but not with the postscript ppd.

    Hope it helps you.

    Cheers,
    Duli
