I got it to compile, and have attached the materials to do it:
1. First set up an rpm building environment as in the very first post of this thread, part C.1.ab. OR, as a REGULAR USER, run the attached script, make-rpmbuild-envmt.sh (take off the *.txt ending)
2. Unpack the attached firefox-rpmbuild-stuff.tar.gz tarball. (Right click on it, and select extract here; or, from a terminal, type tar -xzvf firefox*tar.gz). The folder contains the specfile, mozconfig file, and other sources & patches I used to do the compilation.
3. Add to the folder the firefox-1.0.7 source tarball from here:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla....s/1.0.7/source/
4. Rename the folder "firefox", and move it to /home/yourusername/redhat/firefox
5. Open a terminal, and as a regular user type
cd ~/redhat/firefox
rpmbuild -ba firefox.spec --target=i686
6. Wait for about an hour. When finished, rpms should be inside ~/redhat/RPMS.
7. If you want to change the architecture (e.g., athlon), change the mozconfig file, and give a different target to the rpmbuild command.
