Catalyst legacy driver is now included in the rpmfusion repo
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfr...st-legacy.html
i have just installed and have a working radeon beta driver for F18 from the rpmfusion akmod.
Trying to change the power profile to auto.Code:[sayth@renshawfamily ~]$ glxinfo |grep -i "\(render\|opengl\)" direct rendering: Yes OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series OpenGL version string: 4.2.11995 Compatibility Profile Context OpenGL shading language version string: 4.20 OpenGL extensions: GL_NV_conditional_render, GL_NV_copy_depth_to_color, GL_NV_copy_image,
So i thought it may be simply that card0 was not the name. However the whole directory does not exist.Code:[sayth@renshawfamily ~]$ echo profile > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method bash: /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method: No such file or directory [sayth@renshawfamily ~]$ echo auto > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile bash: /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile: No such file or directory
How can I change the power profile in F18 with the radeon driver?Code:[sayth@renshawfamily ~]$ cd /sys/class/drm bash: cd: /sys/class/drm: No such file or directory
I was reading this from Jun 2011 http://pm-blog.yarda.eu/2011/12/tip-...s-for.html?m=1
Ps by default I got better battery. But since default is 'power' I would like to change.From kernel 2.6.35 and up Radeon driver supports power management (PM). The default behavior is performance oriented, thus if you want to save some power you will need to tune the defaults

Yay!!!!! first version of 2013 is released.
13.1 is out and I see it's also got the performance fixes for Valve Steam for Linux.
[366820] Performance of Valve Linux games
Full release notes here http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...easeNotes.aspx. Now just waiting for an rpmfusion build. I see kernel 3.7.3 also made it's appearance.
Between Catalyst 13.1, Valve Steam for Linux and kernel 3.7.3, it looks like a good month for some new toys and gaming fun.
for the kernel 3.7.3 Catalyst 12.10 build guys, installed it this morning and looking good.
I see that the FC18 rpmfusion repo has builds for Catalyst 13.1 , will there be builds for FC17 as well or is 12.10 the cut off for FC17?
I've been looking at upgrading to FC18. Here's some advice for anyone thinking of upgrading.
Firstly, there's no point in downloading the iso's if you want to upgrade as the anaconda installer can't do upgrades any more. Resorting to the new FedUp upgrade tool, was horribly painful as it's buggy as hell and can't seem to handle installations on encrypted partitions. There are currently numerous bugs listed for FedUp namely, bugzilla's 881624, 896010 and 891786 to name a few. The latter one of which is tripping me up.
All in all I'd rather avoid FC18 like the plague and wait for FC19 and continue using Catalyst 12.10 on FC17 for now.
Everything was all right here with this installation. Greatly improved performance.
But the thing is, I was running Xen.
And now, when I boot 'Fedora with Xen' it hangs at the end of the startup.
When I boot without Xen, only 'Fedora', works normal.
I think it must be something in the step to generate a new initramfs.
You know how can I solve this?
Thank you.
Hey there,
today I got my Radeon HD 7750 and had a few problems with it.
However, with this tutorial from a german fedora board I managed to run my HD 7750 with Catalyst 13.1 and Kernel 3.7.3-101. It might help you as well:
Credits go the Xziped from FedoraForum.de.Create missing version.h for Kernel 3.7.3:
sudo gedit /lib/modules/3.7.3-101.fc17.x86_64/build/include/linux/version.h
Insert the following lines and save the file:
#define LINUX_VERSION_CODE 198403
#define KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) (((a) << 16) + ((b) << 8) + (c))
Download Catalyst driver 13.1:
wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/am...x86.x86_64.zip
Unzip the drivers:
unzip amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-linux-x86.x86_64.zip
Make the installer executable:
chmod +x amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-linux-x86.x86_64.run
Run the installer:
sudo ./amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-linux-x86.x86_64.run
Building the kernel modules WILL fail. Do NOT reboot after installation!
Patch firegl_public.c:
sudo gedit /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/2.6.x/firegl_public.c
Add the following lines directly after line 100 and save the file:
#ifndef VM_RESERVED
#define VM_RESERVED (VM_DONTEXPAND | VM_DONTDUMP)
#endif
Compiling the kernel modules should work now:
cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/
sudo ./make.sh
cd /lib/modules/fglrx/
sudo ./make_install.sh
Reboot and the kernel module should load properly.
If the 32bit OpenGL libraries are needed, they just have to be linked properly:
