    Problem Installing Google Earth

The install of the current version of Google Earth is failing for me on F18 x86-64 with the following error:
Test Transaction Errors: file /usr/bin from install of google-earth-stable-7.0.2.8415-0.x86_64 conflicts with file from package filesystem-3.1-2.fc18.x86_64
    How do I proceed, please?

Ah, thanks, H4ihappen. I missed those.

Looks like I'm not alone here, and that waiting for "them" to fix the conflict is the only solution.

BTW, the "solution" of rpm -U --force didn't solve it for me.

Have the same problem with Google Earth. Two more links of interest: here and here. Cheers!

    Re: Problem Installing Google Earth

Good news guys! Leigh's given me the instructions and a working copy for F18.

I've temporarily housed it on my site: (removed; outdated)

    Leigh's instructions after download:

    su
    yum --nogpgcheck install googleearth-6.0.3.2197-2.fc18.i686.rpm
    update-desktop-database -q /usr/share/applications/
    gtk-update-icon-cache --quiet /usr/share/icons/hicolor

    Re: Problem Installing Google Earth

    Awesome!

Thank you so much, Bob (and Leigh). But I'm afraid I blew it. Instead of downloading the google earth rpm you housed for us, I let apper install it (because I jumped the gun and didn't read your instructions... DON'T DO THAT!).

It installed and starts to come up, but dies after the splash screen. Sigh.

If others try it and it works, please let us know.

    Re: Problem Installing Google Earth

Just tried this following the instructions to the letter - copied and pasted.

Sorry to say, I get the same result as jbuckley2004

Running from the command line I get the following output:

    [bbfuller@atx22 ~]$ googleearth
libGL error: failed to load driver: nouveau
libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details.
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details.
Google Earth has caught signal 11.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed.
This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal
circumstances. A bug report and debugging data have been written
    to this text file:

    /home/bbfuller/.googleearth/crashlogs/crashlog-51025cf2.txt

Please include this file if you submit a bug report to Google.
Interestingly, the text file mentioned in the penultimate line hasn't been created.

Checking back, there used to be a requirement for:

    Code:
    yum install redhat-lsb.i686 redhat-lsb-graphics.i686 redhat-lsb-printing.i686
to get this program to work on 64 bit Fedora.

    However the:

    redhat-lsb-graphics.i686
doesn't appear to be in the repositories at the moment.

I thought that initially, but it appears that the rpm is a shell that brings in the google earth package and ?modifies? it.

    @h4ihappen

Thanks for the links, I suppose what I should have said is that the package doesn't appear to be in the Fedora repositories at present.

    Re: Problem Installing Google Earth

Nope, it's not. Leigh may be in the process of submitting it, but he's pretty busy with a lot of other packages as well. Thankfully, while he's no longer participating directly in the Forum, he still uses his skills to fix the occasional glitch. BTW, I've also passed this on to Duli for review and consideration in adding to EasyLife.

    Re: Problem Installing Google Earth

I used yum to install Bob's RPM from Leigh:

    su
    yum install googleearth-6.0.3.2197-2.fc18.i686.rpm

then used yumex to install 'xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs' for x186 and everything worked.

I am running F18 64 and Nvidia drivers..

    Beginners' luck?

    Re: Problem Installing Google Earth

I can confirm that following the instructions in post 6 Google Earth does now work for me with the nVidia driver installed, but not with nouveau.

For the record I also had to do:

    yum install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686
otherwise I got the Google Earth shell with no Earth.
