Yum: List package dependents (not dependencies)

    Hi All,

`yum deplist XXX` will provide a list of packages that XXX depends on. I want to go the other way: what packages depend upon XXX.

I looked at yum (8) and http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Re...de/ch-yum.html, but I did not see a command.

Does anyone know the command(s) to list dependents?

    Jeff

No. For example, `yum deplist cryptopp` list glibc, stdlibc++, etc. However, it does not list RythmBox (RythmBox depends on Crypto++).

Maybe 'repoquery --whatrequires cryptopp' is what you looking for?
    http://yum.baseurl.org/wiki/RepoQuery

Looks like no cryptopp dependency in rythmbox now.
At least no 'BuildRequires: cryptopp-devel' in rhythmbox.spec
    http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/gitweb...rhythmbox.spec

Re: Yum: List package dependents (not dependencies)

I may have misread this thread, if so I apologise.

    However, if I run:

    Code:
    repoquery --whatrequires kdebase
    and

    Code:
    yum remove kdebase
I get two different lists of files.

Run "repoquery --whatrequires --installed --recursive kdebase" and you should get a similar list.

Re: Yum: List package dependents (not dependencies)

rpm -q --whatrequires <package_name> is sometimes useful, though not always accurate.

Re: Yum: List package dependents (not dependencies)

    @markkuk

Thanks for the elaboration. I was really only curious and not actually intending to remove kdebase at any time. That command does indeed produce the same list.

    @smr54

Thanks for the thought. The command by markkuk actually produces:

    kdebase-6:4.6.5-2.fc15.i686
    kdebase-libs-6:4.6.5-2.fc15.i686
    kdenetwork-7:4.6.5-1.fc15.i686
    kdeutils-6:4.6.5-2.fc15.i686
    kdeutils-libs-6:4.6.5-2.fc15.i686
    kdeutils-minimal-6:4.6.5-2.fc15.i686
    kdeutils-minimal-libs-6:4.6.5-2.fc15.i686
    konq-plugins-0:4.6.1-1.fc15.i686
    krusader-0:2.4.0-0.1.beta1.fc15.i686
Your suggested command though just produces:

    kdebase-libs-4.6.5-2.fc15.i686
    as you implied it might.
