you can download the RPM and use --force
shaw256: removing evolution is perfectly safe. removing evolution-data-server isn't, as various other bits of the GNOME desktop use it as a PIM data store. It should really be renamed, the evolution bit is something of a misnomer. The gnome-panel dep? If you have tasks and appointments stored in e-d-s, when you click on the clock in the panel, it'll show an expandable arrow thingy that shows the list of current tasks, and if you click on a date in the calendar for which there are any appointments, there'll be another expandable list with that day's appointments in it. The data doesn't have to be _created_ with Evo, either; I manage my tasks with the app that's just called 'tasks', but that stores them in e-d-s.
As others have posted, this is simply a packaging error. The evolution maintainer sent out a version of evolution-data-server with a library ABI change as an update, without also rebuilding all packages which depend on e-d-s and including them in the update. Apparently, he just didn't spot the change (see the Bodhi page). Unfortunately, he also submitted the update to stable almost immediately after submitting it to testing. Several people caught the problem and filed negative feedback when it actually arrived in testing, but by then it was too late and the update was pushed to stable regardless.
We have a couple of impending progress improvements which should mitigate this kind of problem in future. The 'proventesters' system of requiring updates to critical path packages to have positive testing feedback from a group of proven testers before they can be pushed to stable would have caught this issue, as e-d-s is a critpath package. That process should be implemented within the next few days, or next couple of weeks at least.
The AutoQA project will also eventually implement an automated dependency check test which should prevent _any_ update being shipped if it causes new dependency issues, but that's slightly more long term, as AutoQA is a complex project with timescales of months rather than weeks...

I took the precaution of making sure my IMAGE BACKUPS were up to date (before I got bit) so I can just reinstall if need be but I have to ask, are there any OTHER "gotchas" in all this mess I need to be aware of?

Now if I can post after dumping KDE and getting back to gnome, I will be happy. Thanks also to "GoinEasy"

YAY! I have gnome back!!! No more wrestling with KDE and NetworkManager!!!!! No wonder Linus Torvalds dumped KDE!!!! (not trying to turn this into a gnome vs KDE thing..., just happy).

The problem has been fixed. At least with my mirror there is no longer a dependency issue.
No it's not fixed, bug still seems open
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=608212
Had tried something like this before (Not the downgrade command though) which didn't work. This seems to be working... I'm installing Gnome-panel. Let's see how it goes.

Okay, this has worked. Thanks gid!
Now installing other dependencies that were lost. Everything seems to work though.

some of the dependent packages have now been rebuilt, and some have not yet. there's also the question of the updates getting from updates-testing to updates. so depending on which packages you have installed, which mirror you're using, and whether you have 'updates-testing' enabled, the issue may appear 'fixed' for you or not. it's likely to vary from person to person.
The ghc issue is a separate (but similar) issue. Another case of a badly-handled incompatible update.

evolution-data-server issue is no more (for me). All is fine now.
This problem has been resolved by the upstream package maintainer/developer (I think it was today)
whoops. deleted
