Re: Can't use "windows" key as shortcut key

Have you tried assigning the shortcut for a different user? If you don't have any other accounts on your computer, just create one.

Well, if it wasn't any update that fixed it on my side, it must have been something else. Besides updates, I also removed all 32 bit packages and some others as well to get some more hard disk space. Probably I was a little too motivated, I also deleted some entries for mime type associations. This resulted in a clean desktop, i.e. no visible icons, and some broken links, like the shortcuts to folders in the 'Places' menu. Before I got that fixed (with the help of a newly created user account), I tried the Super+T shortcut and it worked, but since there were updates as well, I am not sure what fixed it. You may give it a try and locate the config files containing the set shortcuts and rename those files, so that the configs get reset. Probably somebody over here knows, where these shortcuts are stored...

Re: Can't use "windows" key as shortcut key

You might be able to use a method I applied for a different shortcut. Gnome was usurping my Fn+F7 key combo. I wanted to use this for switching monitors via a script. What I found out was that pressing Fn+F7 was generating XF86Display, which Gnome wanted to use. I found the keycode for XF86 display by running xmodmap -pke in terminal IIRC. It turns out that it was keycode 235. I added a line to /home/~/.Xmodmap which read: keycode 235 = F30. Now I was able to use Fn+F7 to launch my script.

Re: Can't use "windows" key as shortcut key

The L+Super key (Windows-key) for "Show activities overview" (of GNOME) does not work for me either in Fedora 27. It used to work.

Now in GNOME-config (under right upper corner menu) > Devices > Keyboard, I see Super+S is mapped to "Show activities overview", and it also go there to Activities Overview when I hit Super+S. But trying to remap it to just Super key is not accepted there; it expects the Super key to be just a modifier like Shift and Alt.

Any ideas how to get just the Super key to Show Activities Overview and not needing Super+S ?

Looking with xev, it shows "Super_R". Is this OK? (the windows key is on the left side of the keyboard though)

    From xev:
    Code:
KeyPress event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x4e00001,
        root 0x1c9, subw 0x0, time 91796180, (304,-78), root:(304,526),
        state 0x0, keycode 134 (keysym 0xffec, Super_R), same_screen YES,
        XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
        XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
        XFilterEvent returns: False

KeyRelease event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x4e00001,
        root 0x1c9, subw 0x0, time 91796652, (306,-76), root:(306,528),
        state 0x40, keycode 134 (keysym 0xffec, Super_R), same_screen YES,
        XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
        XFilterEvent returns: False
