gnome-settings-daemon drives up cpu

After installing the last update 9/19/09 for Fedora 11, gnome-settings-daemon drives up cpu to ~50%. .xsession-errors scrolls with

** (gnome-settings-daemon:16102): WARNING **: Connection failed, reconnecting...

Can anyone confirm this?

I tried creating new user, logging in using gnome, same behaviour.

Yes, i'm having the same behaviour here: gnome-settings-daemon using ~50% of CPU (user) time. I'm using Fedora 11 on i386. So far I haven't found out what may cause this. And I get the same Xsession error, in large quantities.

Try this: System Tools -> Configuration Editor, go to /apps/gnome_daemon_settings/plugins, and click on media-keys, disable it. If you have System load monitor installed on the gnome-panel, you'll immediately see cpu usage drop.
A bug was reported to Bugzilla.

Bingo. Thanks for the tip, turning off media keys support immediately reduced CPU usage, just as you said.

P.S.
Your 50% only means it's taking 100% of half of your dual processor.

A couple notes on this workaround...

1) It requires the Gnome Configuration Editor to be installed, which it appears is not by default. At least, it was not an installed package on my install. I had to add it.

In the Add/Remove Software GUI installation tool it appears as "Editor/admin tool for GConf" aka "gconf-editor-2.26.0-1.fc11"

2) When I deactivated the media keys it caused gnome-settings-daemon to crash on my machine. I logged out and back in and then it worked fine.

Thanks to all for posting the workaround. Fixed my issue nicely.
