    KDE desktop effects how to disable

    I was trying to install the latest drivers for nvidia when I had unfortunately restart my machine. Now I'm not able to see the desktop after rebooting as desktop effects is enabled and have no graphics driver installed. My card is nvidia quadro card.

    I just need a command line way to disable the desktop effects. I'm able to get the console login. Help please. Running KDE 4. Didn't install compiz or anything. Just the default effects settings in KDE4. I want to disable that.

    Log in to text mode, and (re)move the file: ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc. If that fails, move it back, and edit (with VIM or some other text-mode editor) to change/remove the compositing lines:
    [Compositing]
    Enabled=false

    [...]
    [Effects-Shadow]
    <remove all entries for this heading>

    if you're using KDE 4.2 you'll find that in the configuration center of KDE->desktop

    metaltux I guess that vsugadhan cant access kde (GUI mode) - error shows just after login.
    I have the same problem. Ill try Hlingler solution - hope it'll work. ;-)
    I would like to propose an easy functionality which would help many people (with the graphic driver issues) - if compositing cant start and causes errors system might turn it off in next session - login.
