No Wireless on Fedora 10 (Broadcom BCM4312 )

Fresh install of Fedora 10 on Dell Vostro 1000 laptop. NetworkManager only sees the LAN port, not the wireless card.

What are the Terminal commands to make the wireless card be the default network connection and enable it on boot? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

To locate what wireless card you have installed type in the CLI

    Code:
    lspci
you shoudl see two lines one for your wired NIC and another for your wireless one. They should be labeled with:

    ***** Ethernet controller: ******
    ***** Network controller: *****

respectively and be listed one right after the other.

Once you know what wireless card you have then you can get back to us to find out what driver to install.

    ============================
btw... iwconfig is the command you will be using to configure (in the CLI) your wireless. Type man iwconfig in your browser URL or CLI to learn more about it.

My wireless card is a Broadcom BCM4312 (rev 01), aka Dell 1395 wireless card. There are no wireless extensions in my iwconfig, which reports lo, eth0, and pan0. Shouldn't there also be a wlan0 for the wireless card?

I have the same card, there are no linux driver for it yet. You will have to use windows driver with ndiswrapper to make it work.

I have the same problem, but with a BCM4328 and I cannot get ndiswrapper to install. I have the rpm fusion both free and non-free repositories. This is what happens when I try installing ndiswrapper.

You may try to install akmod-ndiswrapper and it's dependencies, then reboot your pc so it can build kmod. Or try to install package ndiswrapper before kmod-ndiswrapper...

    First, read this from Broadcom

Second, read this from Linux Wireless

Third.. follow the instructions in Chapter 11 to install your driver. Make sure you pay attention to the correct instructions for your NIC and it's chipset. Read carefully and think before you do.

with fedora 9 there is b43-cutter, I don't know about fedora 10, you can try yuming for it

b43-cutter is used specifically for broadcom 43xx wireless chipset to extract "firmware" from their respective windows drivers

    see these links:
    http://fedoramobile.org/fc-wireless/bcm43xx-yum-extras
    http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43

    Hope this info helps

With Fedora 8, 9 and 10 there is now the OFFICIAL broadcom wireless driver - it is easy to install and works much better than ndiswrapper. It works with the 4312 and 4328 and many other broadcom cards. See below for a quick and EASY installation guide:

Yup, I'm trying it out right now

Not working for me. Led turns blue, but device doesn't work. It's strange, because when I was testing Ubuntu 8.10 with this driver everything was just fine. I'll do more testing tomorrow.

1weak1 did you try a full reboot after installing it? it needs to blacklist some other kernel modules to function properly... so you can either rmmod them yourself or just reboot.

I have that card on an Acer laptop and I've haven't tried Fedora 10 yet, but Ubuntu 8.10 and Mint 6 RC1 both connected to wifi in two clicks! I thought that Fedora would has the drivers for it like the other distros do.

pwca, thanks for those very helpful links. Follow the instructions in Chapter 11 of what document?
