    VBOX Guest Additions Fedora 10

I just installed Fedora 10 on VirtualBox from the live CD. I then installed the devolopment tools group via yum to get past the requirement for gcc and make.

When I try to run the VBOX Guest additions script it fails with the following output.

    VirtualBox 2.0.6 Guest Additions installation
Please install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel.
The current kernel version is 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686
Problems were found which would prevent the Guest Additions from installing.
Please correct these problems and try again.

How do I install the build and header files?

    Hi

    Ive got the same problem

    installed on Vbox FC10

    updated current version

installed following packages + Development tools

    -kernel headers
    -libmudflap 4.3..
    -libgomp 4.3
    -glibc-devel
    -gcc 4.3
    -kernel source
    - make

after installing I made a reboot and tried to install the guest addition by mounting cd rom
go to root and sh ./vboxLinuxaddtions-x86.run

and brought still the same error messages:
Please install the build and header files for your current linux kernel

    Kernel is 2.6.27.5.117.fc10.i686

    thanks for help

You need kernel-devel too, in general, from a livecd install, a minimal development environment is set up by installing the following packages via yum

    Code:
yum install binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel

I don't know if you also have the same problem, but after installing vbox guest additions I couldn't change my resolution to anything more than 800x600.

This is the solution that worked for me.

    Hello,

I've got exactly the same problem, but your solution did not work for me.
In my opinion, the VBoxLinuxAdditions-Installer has a problem with the i386 and i686 at the end, because my yum said it installed 2.6.27.5.117.fc10.i386, but VBox wants 2.6.27.5.117.fc10.i686.

I also added a symbolic link called 2.6.27.5.117.fc10.i386 in /usr/src/kernels, but this even didn't work.

    Any other idea or solution?

I'm very new to Fedora, yet used Linux Mint only.

    Thanks!

Which version did you install F10? Live Version?

I had exactly the same issue - here's how I fixed it after following the above howto and getting stuck.

    Code:
    su -
    yum -y remove kernel-headers
    yum -y install kernel-header glibc-headers
    Hope it works for you.

I kind of resolved it but in a old fashioned way. I did a `yum update`, which updated around 164 packages and now everything works fine.

    Thanks for the reply.

The issue is the versions of your kernel headers and your running kernel are out of sync. In my experience Ubuntu synchronizes these packages, but Fedora doesn't seem to.

The solution would therefore normally be:
    Code:
    yum update kernel
    along with the usual:
    Code:
    yum install kernel-headers kernel-devel
And a reboot to load the updated kernel.

Hi codepilot, i had the same problem, it took me a while but I sorted it, when you get that error message you will see it says look at the log file.

find the log file and it has a path it cant find which is your 2.6.27.5.117.fc10.i686 devel install.

go to the install, mine was /lib/2.6.27.5.117.fc10.i686. And you will see there are two broken links , one to build and one to source. if this is the case use yum to reinstall the package.

    yum reinstall kernel-devel-2.6.27.5.117.fc10.i686

    Then install the guest additions

    I hope this helps

I had installed "binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel" but untill i runed yum update kernel and rebooted it simply wouldn't work.Thank you!
