Normal if you are running it from a console. Go into applications, system tools, click on greent. Then just hit ctrl-1 to toggle it on and off.

I'm glad someone spoke up for the older generation. At 50 there are not many 20 year olds alive that know as much as I do about computer hardware and operating systems...not to brag or anything :)...
