Can you take a screenshot or list your partition information. What I think is going on is you have the 180+ GB hard drive, but only 1 partition. The "use free disk space" would naturally...

Check out the gparted manual and do a search for "active". To me it sounds like the partition you have marked as "active" doesn't have a boot sector on it, which is why you're getting that error.

Have you tried walking through the install wizard for Fedora? I'd suggest you get the Live version and run through the install. You can play with the partions without committing to the install.
