Re: F16,F15 & F14 Nvidia driver guides

hi, I downloaded the proprietary nvidia 96 driver from nvidia and it installed nice. The only problem is I am stuck at 640x480. Cannot get screen resolution to 1024x768. This is really an xorg.conf problem the monitor is an old compaq presario from 1997. I have done this in the past but am baffled

Well, as to i686 the update to kernel-PAE-3.1.1-2.fc16 seems to be of evident help.

Hi Guys

So no-one has experienced an annoying mouse offset with window resizing or moving windows with nvidia+desktop effects+KDE?

Example... getting a resize cursor when trying to click the title bar when moving windows. When you click, window starts resizing it self to some crazy small size.

Example 2... when moving windows when cursor "example 1" does not occur, then the window will first jump to an offset as if it is trying to centerize itself on some coordinate. :C

This is driving me insane!!!!! Everything else is good which makes it even more frustrating because I am soooo close but not quite there.

I have had this issue before... Making changes in the xorg.conf did not work for me and the nvidia drivers from nvidia always drives me crazy cuz it never works properly. What did work for me was to remove all nvidia drivers and then reinstall the kmod-nvidia drivers and then use the a "nvidia-settings" to make the changes... using the nvidia-settings with root privileges will let you write the settings to your xorg.conf.

Maybe its time to upgrade :p

Yes, I had that problem. The one about the resize a window. I did this to YumX, and it got real skinny on me, and would not go back. I had changed the mouse cursor from default. I got so frustrated I reinstalled Fedora. This time I did not change the cursor. I will be watching this thread for a fix.

I see that the Fedora 16 howto applies only to the GeForce cards:

"For GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 200, 300, 400 & 500 series cards"

I have a Quadro card, although the nVidia site suggests the 285.05.09 card for it, so I suppose one of the drivers in rpmfusion is the correct one.

Here are the results from the suggested command line output:

[jjj@Devil8 ~]$ rpm -qa *\nvidia\* *\kernel\*|sort;uname -r;lsmod |grep -e nvidia -e nouveau;cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

cat: /etc/X11/xorg.conf: No such file or directory

I am afraid to install the akmod 290.06-1 driver when I can't find any documentation that it will work with my card. And the kmod 285-05-09 driver says it is for the previous kernel.

I have half a dozen applications that will not run without the nVidia driver, including important apps like Virtualbox-OSE, so I really need to get an nVidia driver working on this computer.

Re: F16,F15 & F14 Nvidia driver guides

For those of us with the mobile GO series that can't get it to start, my own variation being:
Code:

[    21.668] (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to get supported display device(s)
[    21.690] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Failed to query OR info 0x24
[    21.692] (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce Go 7900 GS (G71) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)

You'll need to install a driver far enough back so it will function, or wait for a fix. Newest beta listed above still does the same crapout for me with my Go 7900 GS.

Further information in this thread.

I knew one of the big 3(network driver, video driver, or NFS) would crapout. 14 seems to be the only release in recent memory where I could get everything working. Thread as usual is still awesome though, looks like I'll be going back to 14 again in a day or so. Can't see them jumping on this to fix.

I forgot to mention:

285 which it tried to go back to, still did not work. I had to install 280.13 for this to work, then of course it barfed on the server version not being supported, so
finally after installing from nvidia's binary and adding the server option of "ignoreABI", it's all working.

My xorg.conf file:

Edit: I'm guessing since my original post had links in it, it then needs "approval" first. Anyhow, it was to an nvnews forum post detailing the mobile GO users woes with the newer drivers in the newest kernel. Anybody having said issue will likely need to install 280.13.

Hello, I have the xorg high cpu usage issue, when opening a tab in firefox makes xorg use one entire cpu core.

just updated everything, and restarted x

searched and it seems some people have got it working with "yum update *\nvidia\* --enablerepo=rpmfusion-*-rawhide"
but not for me

graphics card is GeForce 6200

Code:

It's possible to downgrade the Nvidia driver? If yes, what's the proper command? I've tried
yum downgrade *\d-nvidia\* *\v-nvidia\*, but it doesn't work (dependencies issues).

I have too nvidia+desktop effects+KDE+segmententionfaults

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

On an update attempt, I installed the newer kernel earlier but have been booting the older one until drivers. Now I can't get the new drivers to install  :(
