IMHO for most people who don't play advanced games under Linux, the open source driver of Radeon cards 3xxx, 4xxx, 5xxx series cards is pretty decent and satisfying. Well ok if it's a medium or high power card it would be a pretty bad solution for mobile computers, but otherwise it should be overall rather satisfying. |

Re: Howto for fglrx / catalyst (Ati driver)
12.6 is in the f17 testing repo
Code:
[leigh@main-pc ~]$ yum --releasever 17 --enablerepo rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing list *\mod-catalyst xorg-x11-drv-catalys\*http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfr...-catalyst.html |
Re: Howto for fglrx / catalyst (Ati driver)
12.6 is the last version of catalyst that will support the Radeon HD 4xxx series, right?

Also, note that 12.6 is currently beta, and not a standard release. However, it seems to be working well with my Radeon HD 7850.

The 12.6 isn't working for my Radeon HD 6470

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...tem&px=MTExMzU In the unlikely event that they actually do it I will update the F16 branch so that F17 users with legacy hardware can use it. As for the F16 branch, I have blocked it from being updated to 12.6 as this would be unfair for legacy hardware owners. |
Re: Howto for fglrx / catalyst (Ati driver)
Does anyone have a list of packages that should *NOT* be updated with yum (i.e., added to the exclude list in yum.conf) when running the catalyst driver? Obviously you don't want to update to an unsupported kernel, but there must be other stuff, too, because if I've run yum update and then had to uninstall/reinstall the catalyst driver because something broke.
(Note that my installation of the catalyst driver was not done with yum/rpm, but with the AMD installer.) |
