Hlingler
your bits are on the old laptop which is still running F9
i should upgrade it but time is a problem
these posts are related to my desktop PC
i've been messing around trying to create a website which is why the desktop is my current focus

but thankyou for the concern

Firewing1 22nd February 2009 09:19 PM

I don't think this is going to help, but try:
Code:

su -
mkinitrd -v /boot/initrd-`uname -r`.img  `uname -r`
fglrx-config-display disable
fglrx-config-display enable
ldconfig

Then reboot the machine.

lambcutlet 22nd February 2009 09:37 PM

firewing1 i performed your commands
Quote:

root@l7vta ~]# mkinitrd -v /boot/initrd-`uname -r`.img `uname -r`
/boot/initrd-2.6.27.15-170.2.24.fc10.i686.img already exists.
[root@l7vta ~]# fglrx-config-display disable
[root@l7vta ~]# fglrx-config-display enable
livna-config-display's `active' state is False - Exiting
[root@l7vta ~]# ldconfig
[root@l7vta ~]#
is the response of 'livna-config-display's' correct?

i rebooted and the error is still there - no change

Firewing1 22nd February 2009 10:15 PM

Oops, forgot to tell mkinitrd to overwrite files:
Code:

mkinitrd -f -v /boot/initrd-`uname -r`.img `uname -r`
Regarding livna-config-display, it's up to you: at the moment, you have it set to the disabled state which means that livna-config-display won't configure any files for you. It's more or less the "you're on you're own" mode. If you don't want this, then the commands below will change it back into active mode and attempt to reconfigure your display settings:
Code:

livna-config-display --active on
fglrx-config-display disable
fglrx-config-display enable
ldconfig

lambcutlet 22nd February 2009 10:32 PM

the 'livna-config-display --active on' command definitely did something maybe that was all that was missing

here is the latest Xorg.0.log
http://pastebin.com/mae4ae43

what the easiest way to test its working?
i was thinking of something like 'glxgears'

and this was the response of your commands
http://pastebin.com/m15d67ff8
had to put it in pastebin too many characters

Yup, you can also try "fgl_glxgears" and "glxinfo | grep direct". All is well according to Xorg.0.log:

(II) fglrx(0): DRI initialization successfull!
So 3D should be working fine now.

I hope ATI does not delay to offer a compatible version of their driver with F11.

going by how slow they were in releasing a driver for X-Server-1.5.x im sure they'll be just as slow in releasing one for 1.6.x

Conscript89 26th February 2009 08:23 AM

Thanks a lot. "livna-config-display --active on" was the problem. I'm running fglrx 9.2 now and AIGLX works :)

Jeff72 26th February 2009 03:45 PM

The latest Fedora 10 updates as of 2/25 seem to have damaged the official Fedora compiz-fusion when working with the fglrx driver. Now, the mouse shows like it is constantly busy and all new windows start above the top of the screen so you can not move windows around or even get to the top left of the Gnome Panel.

I am assuming this was caused by the updated xorg-x11-server update.

I had problems here too, removing and installing the fglrx packages again solved it.

Demz, maybe we should post a bug report at http://ati.cchtml.com/ if it does not work with the new X Server, I guess it will be available in the beta release

adrianx 26th February 2009 06:40 PM

@Jeff72

Similar problem here with Compiz. Something else that I've noticed is that one of my scripts that displays an icon in the notification area, has also stopped working. I use "export DISPLAY=:0.0...." in the script and all of a sudden I'm getting this error:
Code:

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
My script was fine before the update.
