F12: Weird battery life estimation on Acer Travelmate 4060

Battery fully charged.

Unplug laptop - instant 'battery discharging' message then either:

Battery is critically low and laptop will hibernate in 4 mins OR 99.4% capacity and 4h 15 mins left.

Seems to be random what I'll get if I keep pulling and replacing DC power lead.

Touchscreen/Tablet Fedora Installs

Anyone have Fedora 11+ running on their tablet laptops?
I've got an install of Fedora 11 running on my Toshiba Tecra M4, but its not ideal. It needs some calibration around the edges.

Does anyone have the packages/fix for this? Fedora doesn't really seem to play nice with tablets as well as ubuntu does.

Also: what tablet laptops do you run fedora from?

F12 laptop and external monitor

I have some issues with my E4200 and external monitors on F12. Under F11 everything worked fine. My power button is located under the screen, so what I would normally do under F11 was to connect an external monitor, turn on the laptop and quickly close the lid. It would then come up using the external display in high resolution.

On F12 it is a different story. Sometimes it comes up as mirror screens or dual head, and I am not able to close the lid or it will go to sleep (while the external monitor is connected). I can manually turn off the laptop display and the external monitor on. However if I then close the lid the laptop goes to sleep. Sometimes after the the screen saver activities and I return to the machine it will come up with the display on the laptop and the external display showing just a blank desktop. I have no xorg.conf. Any clues or suggestions?

Connecting LCD TV Crashes Fedora

So I just done a clean install of Fedora 12 on my Samsung NC10 netbook. Everything running great but to be honest I don't see any speed or performance boost whatsoever from 11. The only problem I do have is that now when I connect my LCD TV through the VGA port, the entire system appears to crash. The mouse doesn't move, keyboard shortcuts don't work and generally everything seems unresponsive. Anyone care to shed some light?

Dell C610 graphics corrupt in F11/F12

hello,

ever since F11, my old Dell Latitude C610 graphics/video is corrupted and garbled. see attached
photos. F12 is the same. it worked fine in F10 and earlier.

the video card is "VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY"

from what i've found, looks like the hardware is just too old and not supported. am i SOL?

Fedora 12 HP Mini 2140 Flawless Install

Nice work everyone!

Downloaded the Live CD image. Put it on a thumbdrive using unetbootin. Wouldn't boot. Typed the error message into Google, and got the word to use livecd-tools instead.

Used livecd-tools to copy the image to the thumbdrive, the usb booted, and the install went flawlessly.

Rebooted, yum update'd, then enabled the fusion repos, and installed the broadcom-wl driver. Rsync'ed my data back from its backup disk.

Everything works fine. Best Fedora install experience yet!

Fedora 12 Nouveau blank screen

After upgrading from Fedora 10 to 12 I got a black screen with the nouveau kernel driver. I've followed the sticky directions to install the rpmfusion nvidia drivers successfully and I'm up and running with the nvidia kernel driver, however I would like to get nouveau working.

This is on a Toshiba Tecra M9 with a Nvidia Quadro NVS 130M.

There were no error messages in the Xorg.0.log file, everything seemed to work fine. The right Nvidea card was detected, the display was detected as 1440x900 which is correct, the keyboard and mouse were detected, yet nothing on the display.

How do I solve this issue?

Fedora12 install problem on HP6730b

I downloaded Fedora-12-i386-DVD.iso and i installed my laptop but i have some problem. install did not finished.
When start boot show these errror message.

Kernel panic - not syncing: DMAR hardware is malfunctioning.

HP nc8430 Fedora 11 two issues

Hello,
I have been attempting to get Fedora 11 installed on this laptop dual-boot with Windows 7, which is already installed and working. I have had F11 installed six or seven times so far and it will work, except for two problems.

1) the LEDs for the built-in wireless flash constantly when using the wireless in Fedora, but are lit steadily in Windows. The wireless does connect and function in Fedora, so the flashing LEDs are more of an annoyance than anything else, unless they are indicating a hardware error condition which might damage the hardware, but I don't know about this. In any case, I'd like to either make the LEDs quit flashing constantly or maybe even disable them if necessary.

2) I cannot seem to find a driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 that works, which means I can't run Compiz. My several reinstalls resulted from installing the incorrect driver and rendering the video non-functional, and I finally got what seemed to be the correct driver (9.3 version), but it won't install. Will I just have to be content with 2D video?

Dear friends,
my Toshiba laptop has a cdma wireless usb connection which as it claims IS SLOW, 156 kbps/sec (so, no blame on the provider)! I am finding that downloads are taking time eternal (FEDORA 11-X86_64). I have kept my desktop as Win.XP PRO for referencing and HELPING ME OUT. Is it possible to download Command line dialogues and other useful info' on to a dvd and using it for reference on the laptop"? Any help is most welcome and thanks!

I'm thinking of upgrading to F12 from F8 (I mean fresh install) on a Sony Vaio FZ240E and was wondering if the problems with F8 were solved in F12? I mean no webcam, no instant mode, no brightness Fn keys, etc.

Congratulation to the release team for F12 BTW!

Edit: Actually, any info on F12 + Sony Vaio would be very useful, it doesn't have to be the same model.

I see http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/FedoraMoblin is at live beta 3 at the moment??

I thought it might come out when fedora 12 was released, but i don't think it has yet

Hello, there, everyone. I'm new, and I've got nothing but awesomeness to share with the community. I bought a Compaq 610 because I wanted my own computer (as opposed to the family one) and I decided I wanted to hook it up with Linux. so I download various distros (Mandriva, Slackware, Arch, Debian, Mint, etc) and from those 10 or so distros only Fedora 11 could handle every single piece of hardware this little guy has, I even had injection capabilities OOTB with my wlan card (!). The performance is awesome, it's got a beautyfull stability, in a word, Fedora's the name of my new favourite Linux distro. Congratulations to everyone who ever contributed to it.

Lenovo T400 w/ Intel GMA4500 GPU goes into a semi dormant state after resume

The symptoms do not occur on every resume from hibernate, it may be the 3rd or 4th resume. It has not happened on resumes from suspend to ram. I have entered a bug report here:

It seems to have something to do with glibc libraries as errors in /var/log/messages indicate:
