View Full Version : Airport Extreme problem on FC5 ppc

After the FC5 ppc installation on my Powerbook G4 and after using fwcutter to extract the Airport2 firmware to /lib/firmware I modprobed the bcm43xx module and restarted NetworkManager.
The nm-applet discovers a few wireless networks around since they are listed but when I select mine and type in (copy/paste) the wep hex key it keeps searching and comes back to a no network connections state since there's no ethernet connection either.
Any idea what could cause this?

Hi,
it seems that nobody has yet been able to connect with the built-in AirPort Extreme card of Apple's iBook running FC5 ppc. I am using the latest FC5 kernel (2.6.16-1.2078_FC5) and still have the same problem - NetworkManager's tray icon displays all wireless network IDs around but it's unable to connect, tried different security layers - open, WPA and WPA2 - none works. Just curious - what gives you iwconfig and ifconfig?

Well I just reinstalled Ubuntu Dapper Drake on this Powerbook (AE works fine with it). All because I had no internet connection!

I will try the Live CD of Ubuntu Linux 6.06 (Dapper Drake) alpha Flight 5 first and see how it works. Which prerelease version are you running?

OK, I have finally managed it to establish an open wireless connection with the iBook G4 running FC5. It only worked for me by fireing up the device manually - and NOT using NetworkManager.

Yeah, joining (unencrypted) wireless 802.11bg networks via NetworkManager Applet finally does work for me with FC5 on my iBook :-)
Just had to update to the latest kernel and NetworkManager packages provided by Fedora's repos.
