I sucessfully upgraded my RH9 install to Fedora FC1, it all went through smoothly.

The problem came when I started upgrading packages. RHN said I needed to Update to the latest UP2Date packages before any others, so i did that.

It went REAL SLOOW, so I changed the sources for up2date, to rpmfind...

I then used up2date to download and install all the updates, it downloaded the updates fine.
However when installing the install froze when it was installing XFree86 Base fonts.
I left it for an hour but it was still frozen.

So I rebooted, big mistake, cause now when it boots it fails to load the X server, and dumps me back to the login prompt, but then attempts to load X server again, keeps looping.

I switch to another console it says X keeps crashing would I like to see the log, in the Log it says a lot of stuff about font errors.
The Xfee86 setup tool also fails to start so I cant make a new config.

I went to /var/spool/up2date
and attempted to install the xfree base fonts manually, but it said something about Key error like it's corrupted.

So how can I fix it? i attempted to run YUM, but its not installed!!
I think I can fix it with yum?
Should I download the Yum rpm and install it? Does it have any dependencies?

Im using XP *UGH* to write this emaill

Thanks
cheers,

How did you install FC1? If you used CD-ROM, you can install yum rpm package from CD-ROM.

Otherwise, download yum rpm package for FC1 from:
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/1/i386/

Notice, this is updated newer version than the one from CD-ROM.

yum-2.0.5-1.noarch.rpm

Ok I did the yum updates but that didn't fix it.

I found that up2date hadn't installed the xfs server package, since it crashed during installing the XFree-basefonts. So I installed the xfs package, and all is well.
