Using an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 3200+ cpu and am having some serious issues getting FC5 to install at all.

1. I'm using a PNY GeForce Fx6800GS PCI Express video card so must do text mode
installation. Everything *before* anaconda starts is fine, anything after anaconda
starts has the text on the screen garbled to the point that nothing lines up. I've
managed to get past it by pressing arrow keys until something highlights that I can
recognize, but it's painfully slow going. I've tried passing nofb on the install, but no
help.

2. During the FC5T3 install, there is no option for kernel development anymore.
I was able to get the kernel-devel package from yum, but no source. I need this
because the NVidia drivers for the NForce chipset and the video card in the system
require a kernel rebuild.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

im not sure but I think the src packages cd is a seperate download, and you can get to it from the fedora mirrors unless you need it to get your internet working..

I just checked, and did not see a separate source download for an x86_64 iso (or any other for that matter).

This is a thinking-outside-the-box kind of solution to point 1.

If you have a good install, can you create a kickstart file to give to the installation process? A properly scripted kickstart file will install the entire system and get you back to firstboot. No need to figure out what the screen is saying as it will fly past in the blink of an eye anyway.

Cheers

Duncan,

I never thought of trying that. I've not had to deal with kickstart yet, but have been itching to find a reason to spend the time on it, so this might just be it.

Thanks!

I have a Giga-Byte K8NXP-SLI with AMD64 X2 4400+, with dual XFX GeForce 7800 GT PCI-E video cards in an SLI configuration. When installed FC3T3 I have the same issue as #1 above; it identifies my graphics card as an unknown nVidia controller, and than shows garbage when the graphical installer starts up. Even shifting through resolutions doesn't clear up the graphics.

I tried to do a text install but had the same result; text doesn't line up and there is garbage in the blue background of the installer. I've gotten to the package installation screen (text mode doesn't let you select the exact packages to install?), and it seems to be installing fine.

No idea why the installer is so messed up.
