I am building myself a nice small micro atx desktop using the Asus A8N-VM CSM as the center of the build, I am intending this system to be the one that I will use to welcome FC5 x86-64 ;).

However, I have been doing my homework about this motherboard, and the results were kind of contradicting / different some people aren't having an issue with it some are, some issues with the onboard Gedforce 6150, others had issues with the onboard Marvell NIC , and others had issues with the SATAII controller.

But I keep hearing that all of that will not be an issue if the OS is FC5 instead of FC4.

Since I am intending it to be a FC5 machine, should I feel ok about ordering this mobo from Newegg in a couple of days ow are there issues that will stay even with FC5 ?

What I like about this motherboard, is it's form ASUS, it has an onboard Geforce 6150 with an onbaord DVI which is not bad at all for an integrated GPU and more than enough for Wolfenstein ET ;)

I am intending to use my SATA WD as my main drive with it.
The CPU will be an AMD 64 3000+ Venice E6

Here is a link to the motherboard.

Your input is appreciated.

Running FC5 with the latest updates. No problems with network card and video (running generic nv driver). Sound does not work. One speaker is ok, high-pitch coming form the other speaker. The sound stops working frquently, has to be autodetected again and again to make it work. Not having SATA drive so do not know how if that is working or not.

OK, concerning the sound is it a hardware or software issue ?
Have you tried any 3D apps with that 6150 . and if so how is the performacne under Linux ?
Have you tried Nvidia's drivers, or yet ?
Thank you

I am not an expert but I think the sound is a software problem. Hopefully, ALSA 1.0.11 will fix it (do not think it is going to be part of FC5 when released).
The nv driver is fast enough for me. I am not into gaming much. My TV card works fine and TV has nice, smooth picture, not interrupted. I do not know how to install current NVIDIA drivers as FC5 has moved X from /etc/X11 to /usr so at the moment the installation fails. Hopefully new drivers from NVIDIA will fix it. When? I do not know.

I have had the ASUS CSM mobo with the 6150/430 chipset since January. The installation went smoothly under FC5_64 (better than Windows in detecting the hardware).

The two main issues I have are the sound as described above (only one speaker working) and the 3D function. I can run glxgears for 5 to 10 minutes and then Fedora hangs and I have to manually reboot. I am on FC5_64 with the latest kernel now -- it was happening on FC4_64. It happens with any game that uses GLX (ie. torcs or cannon smash).

I installed the nvidia drivers from the livnia repo and glxinfo looks okay. The output from glxgears is okay at about 1500 fps (until it hangs). Since this is an onboard GPU do I have to configure Linux to set aside a certain amount of system memory to the integrated card?
