Special keyboards and mice

Do those special Microsoft or Logitech keyboards and mice work in Linux? Would be nice to use some of those buttons.

Does claim to support lots of those keyboards. Also you can try entering keyboard as a search term in sourceforge.net it will come up withj some more projects although LinEAK is the top one and the best. It is being used by lots of people I know. And they seem pretty happy with it. It also has a section on "How to get your keyboard supported" if it is not already present in the LinEAK database.

Thanks for the link. I'll try it out this weekend after I redo my office. I just finished building a music server for the family and now I need to rejig the office to make it all work nicely.

Right now I got the iBook with OS X floating around the house wirelessly and 3XP systems and a box with Fedora which is my main office computer now. (Had to get a new 8-port switch, since I got the Xbox connected too!) I got one of these MS Multimedia keyboards with the music server and wanted to actually use those extra buttons.

Acme works well with Gnome. You can find it at one of the third party rpm site (livna or freshrpms I think).

My keyboard is a Logitech Elite Keyboard. I believe it's one of the popular black and silver keyboards that can be bought around $29 CDN. Is this supported at all? I'm currently searching on Google for any answers. Currently plugged in using ps2 connector.

I also have a Logitech Marble Mouse USB that is currently plugged in through usb. It works fine except the 2 small buttons beside the 2 larger ones are not configurable at the moment. Any ideas to make them work?

I would appreciate any help as I'm probably not the only one having this issue. Would be nice to make this work easily unless there isn't a way.

Please remember, that not getting a reply doesn't mean noone wants to help you. They've probably simply got no useful information to offer (as is this here with me..).

As I'm sure you know, latest hardware support in linux is atill a major thorn in the side of desktop ubiquity. Fedora does one of the better jobs in this regard to supporting a wide range of hardware.

If you have no luck, then submitting a RFE to bugzilla to include support might be an option.

Thanks mhelios, I understand. It's been a great ride so far with Fedora for me after years of trying different distros. I guess this is one of those wish items that most of us probably would like to see for our keyboards and mice without the hard work to do it ourselves. I'll continue to research it though and report anything I find. Thanks again.

On another note, I like the process of listing a thread RESOLVED in the forums here. How many times do we all go searching for info on other threads not knowing if there's a resolution at the end?! LOL.

Yes, it 'tis a splendid feature. Very helpful for those searching for known good answers. Remember, the OP can RESOLVE there own threads. This is much appreciated to save the work of mods..(or at least me...:eek: )

Ok guys this is where I'm at with this. I have gotten Lineak to work in Fedora. I downloaded the lineakconfig-0.3.2-1.i386.rpm file and double-clicked the file after downloading.

It went ahead and installed. Before running, create a lineakkb.def file and save it in /usr/local/etc. I found this file on Google by typing "lineak logitech".

I opened a Terminal window and typed lineakconfig and the gui setup started. I have the Logitech Elite keyboard usb/ps2 model which is the same as the Internet Navigator keyboard, except black & silver. I chose this model and now this is where I'm stuck.

When I click OK or APPLY, I get an error message Lineak not running. How can the config gui be working if Lineak isn't running??? Any ideas?

Oftentimes the config and server programs are completely separate and therefore it is likely that you don't have the program running. Try looking in the documentation to start the program. possibly a lineak command? Or a /etc/init.d/lineak start? Good luck.
