View Full Version : FC5 Test 3 Released Yet???

Today (20 Feb) is the delayed release day for FC5 Test3.
I see that Test 3 build 4.92 dated 16 Feb is available at Fedora downloads.
Is that the final test 3 or is a new one going to be relesed today?
Also, any words about a DVD iso? or a test3 torrent?

Cheers,
Flyboy

Thanks, I did read somewhere that originally the delay was only going to be one week. Anyhow...so what is the test 3 sitting at fedora downloads??

This release will not come soon enough! I have been holding off on various upgrades for this realease. One of the most significant upgrades will be for my laptop. Since ATI finally resolved the suspend problem and suspend to RAM magically started working with FC4, I have heard that FC5 will support its own flavor of suspend to disk (whatever that may be... I just know it's not swsuspd2 or whatever). I am really looking forward to that as it would complete "total support" for all laptop oriented functions on my Dell Inspiron 8600. I can't speak for other makes or models but I have a feeling that it will cover a vas majority of contemporary hardware.

So SOON please! :)

Well I'll be ....
Refresh did the trick. I looked for an option in firefox to keep that from happening again but did see anything obvious.

So here a question. Now that I'm almost done getting 5 dvd's, is there an "easy" way to combine them into an installation DVD?
Gees I wish I had seen the DVD torrent a couple of hours ago.

5 dvd's!!! you might want to stop your download and just get the 1 dvd disk OR the seperate CDs

wow so far test 3 is knocking my socks off.

only found/reported one bug so far (gnome-volume-manager)

enabling cmoposite manager in metacity does not seem to work for me, it just redraws the screen about 10 times then i have no window borders, but the good ol xcompmgr works (not ideal solution for eyecandy but hey.. its all i can get now)

Are you using the instructions posted on the dev list? (The thread was titled "Bling!") I believe there's serveral things that need doing other than simply enabling it in Metacity, in fact, I think Metacity needs to be replaced. I'll have to dig up the mail.

If I got FC5 Test 2 installed, will a "yum update" upgrade my system to FC Test3?

Edit:
I think I kinda found answers here:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Testing
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95554&highlight=upgrade+%22test

What about upgrading from FC5 Test 3 to Final FC5?

It will upgrade your system to the latest development version which is the same as FC5 test 3 currently

Ok. Well.. I tried that on one of two systems I've got FC5 Test 2 installed on, and it borked my grub.. I had boot into rescue from DVD and reinstall grub with grub-install..

What about Test 3 into Final?

Folks - just a quick note: As you explore T3 and find bits and pieces that still might have some rough edges, here's a posting on T4 for SuSE that was just released: http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opensuse-announce/2006-Feb/0007.html
It is not a perfect world!

Test 2 had a boot iso and you could tell anaconda where to find the other isos, is that function incorporated into disk1 now? The rescuecd also had an option for unstall/upgrade, is that a better bet than disk1? I want to upgrade from the images on an external HD.

There is still a boot.iso image in the images folder but the rescue cd is a enhanced version of that. CD1 technically contains the boot.iso image so it can provide the same functionality too.

It also wasn't part of the torrent I downloaded. Is it somewhere else? Or should I just use the rescuecd?

Thanks

Its not part of the torrent since rescue cd is more useful for torrent users. Other can download it from the images folder like I said http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/test/4.92/i386/os/images/

Ah! Sorry for being obtuse.

I also was able to get it off the disk1 iso after mounting it loopback.

Thanks

Well, here's a nice chicken and egg situation. Neither the boot.iso or rescuecd installer seem to be able to read my LVM partitions. I'm hoping there's some trick to this...

Hello,
Sort-a off topic, but a quick FC5 (t3) question. Is it safe to simply update my FC5t3 system when the FC5 final ISO's come out, or should I do a format install?

I don't see any reason not to upgrade. There should only be bug fixes in the final version, nothing that would alter the fundamental architecture of the release.

It should be able to do that. If not file a bug report
