Creative usb webcams work fine with linux. Don't know about connecting to yahoo chat, but gnomemeeting works very well for connecting to netmeeting.

How about checking this site out ?

Although the site has last been updated almost 2 years back there are a few good links on it like these

I personally have a non standard web cam which I was able to configure after much head beating about 1 year back.

Good question.
I personally have a really rare camera used for VideoConferencing. My uncle sent me a pair with some barebone cases his company didn't need anymore. The pcs I was able to salvage by stripping useful peices and combining them into one of the cases creating the computer I'm using now. An outdated, but incredibly efficient (thanks to Fedora/Linux) machine. My problem is the cameras... I have absoultely no idea how to even configure them or even where to look!
Its a Sony EVI-D30 (http://picturephone.com/products/sony_evi_d30.htm) and a really nice peice of hardware. Has anyone had any luck getting it to work under linux? I saw some websites that have, but they've done grander things that just hook it up to talk. Some people have implemented the camera as sight for Robots that use linux. Crazy stuff, but I just want to have it as a webcam.
Possible?
Lemme know.
