Netgear EA 101 USB

I was using a Netgear EA 101 USB Ethernet adapter to connect to the internet on a win98 laptop. I bought a harddrive to swap with the win98 one to have FC1. Everything looks good as a install, but no network drivers. What do I need to do?

Something I just noticed, in /root/install.log the file kernel-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl.i686 was not installed. My guess is that this is the problem?

If this is it how to fix it?

Use Main Menu > System Settings > Network (redhat-config-network).

After some Googling, the correct driver for your nic is KL5USB101 USB Ethernet driver. Congratulations! :D Merely hit New and then select the driver and the device.

That's an older kernel. To be sure you're up to date, run up2date and be sure the kernel's updated. :D

On running MM>SS>network I get an error window stateing
Application "redhat-config-network" (process 11071) has crashed due to a fatal error. (Segmentation fault)

I wonder what are the configuration files used by redhat-config-network? I may have it configured wrong or messed up the files it writes to which I would need to know to fix it? I will also need to know what the statements should be to make it work.

Querying rpm doesn't give any config files. rpm -q redhat-config-network -l redhat-config-network does need to be run as root. Try getting to the command prompt, enter su - and the root password, and then entering redhat-config-network

Unfortunately, I don't know of another way to enable the KL5USB101 USB Ethernet driver.

I found redhat-config-network's driver configuration. /usr/share/redhat-config-network/module-info. Under KL5USB101 USB Ethernet driver it has the kaweth module. Therefore, I think all you need to do is load the module with modprobe -a kaweth and then automatically loading it by inserting the line alias eth0 kaweth into your /etc/modules.conf file. Check to see that it loaded correctly by running lsmod | grep kaweth

I think this will work.

For the last few days I have been using a pccard to get on the net. Today I tried the EA101 again and right now you are seeing it working. I don't know what was the change that allowed it to work, but it is.

I think I need to do some more coverage one the problem that am see now. It was not what I thought it was. I have pccard which does the same thing, but now I have learned more of the problem. It is happening only after suspend so I will ask the laptop forum more about this. I has be madding going though this. But I do have a bad work around.
