Configuring a usb dance pad

Hi. Thanks to all you guys who are smart.

I have a Dance Dance Revolution USB dance pad. I hook it up to my usb port and restart. When I look in the hardware browser under system devices is comes up as "Dance Dance" and the same thing in /etc/sysconfig/hwconf. HOwever, it doesn't work in the game. Does anyone know how to configure it to work as a game pad? I'm a total newb here.

Which pad and which game?

I had a USB pad I tried to work with Stepmania (http://stepmania.com/) on Linux. Was messing with joystick test program and other things. But in the end I've been playing on Mac or Windows.
