View Full Version : Problems with Asus P4PE and Gig LAN chip

I just built a new FC4 system and I've had nothing but problems getting it going. After much troubleshooting, I figured out that the when the LAN controller is turned on in the bios the system will hang when it probes hardware. I've turned it off and I can boot with no problems. Now I'd like to get the LAN port working, but I can't figure out what to do.

Has anyone loaded FC4 or similar on a P4PE with the broadcom Gbit chip? If so how? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry, I couldn't pull logs since I can't get the machine on the net to grab them.

I'm running stock FC4 fresh, no updates, with ATI 9500AIW, 256MB RAM, Promise SATA (not working either),

thanks

Thanks for the reply. I have already done, what I thought was an exhaustive search of the ASUS support site for an answer. I already have the drivers, but the issue is that the system won't get past the initial probe during startup. It hangs at network.

any suggestions?

sounds like a case for buying a pci card, that's what i had to do as my abit's onboard intel e1000 would hard hang my machine when used (not at boot).

have you tried the noapic kernel param at boot (or is it acpi=off?)

Not sure exactly what it took, but I have it working now. I selected to enable the boot ROM on the LAN Chip, and I replaced the ATI All in wonder card. I think it was probably a conflict with the AIW card in the end. Not sure, but I'm happy...with the lan...now to hop to another forum for help with the Promise SATA and ATA controllers...

thanks
