friend dropped off this computer, it's a P2 -something-er-rather with 64 megs of ram and 2 gig scsi harddrive

Saw it and first thought was "let's get linux on it!"..... yeah... about that

i was thinking a minimal install of one of many flavors of linux (with any kind of gui)..... then I ran into a snag... this POS computer doesn't support booting to a CDRom......

Suggestions? my linux laptop doesn't have a floppy drive, however an Winxp box I have in the other room has a floppy.... I'm sure I could find a disk around the house somewhere...... but i don't even know where to go to get a boot disk that would let me install linux!

You could download a boot image from just about any Linux flavor mirror, I know that Damn Small Linux has one called bootfloppy.img. From there you can get a RawWrite program from http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/rawwrite.htm that will enable your windows system to create a Linux boot disk from the boot image.
