I have a Compaq Remote Insight PCI board that I am trying to install in a dual cpu compaq dl380
The problem is that when I boot with a smp kernel I get a
KERNEL BUG in smpboot.c 1107 with all recent releases of the fedora kernel
Although if I boot with a uniprocessor kernel everything boots up fine
any help would be greatly appreciated

It seems you're not the only one with this kernel bug:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/2/3/133

Have you tried the latest 2174 kernel? I would submit a bug report to:
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/ unless there already is one (likely).

The New kernel seems to solve this problem
along with a little trick
If anyone has this problem this is how I got around it
remove the remote insight card
and install fedora linux you should be able to boot in full smp mode
use yum to update the system kernel and other updates
then install the card and change the irq to 5
then all issues seem to be resolved
This has worked on 2 systems for me
