Hey!

I'm having some trouble with my new A7N8X-XE motherboard.
USB ports are well detected (at least that's what i understand looking at logs) but when i plug in some device (hd, key, mouse, etc...) nothing happens (no red light for the mouse). And nothing shows in the logs...

Any clue?

I get some
over-current change on port ... messages...dunno if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Manu

Sorry to tell you that at least one of the USB ports on your mobo are bad. I have a Toshiba laptop that had the USB take a complete suicide and I get those over-current errors all the time now. Basically the darn thing is an expensive teletype now.

There is another post on this forum where someone had a similar problem, he replaced his USB controller and everything worked perfectly. Unfortunately for me, to replace the USB controller in this Toshiba laptop would cost me oh, around $300. Thats if I do it myself, figure more if I have a repair company do it for me.

It was a good laptop too, so sad that it had to go off kill the USB ports. Not even the touchpad works; because its hooked into a USB controller internally.

As far as I can tell from my research it has something to do with a protection mechanism that is designed to prevent weird voltages from traveling through the bus. Usually it is brought on my electrical stress on the motherboard; ESD and the like.

Hope this helps, looks like youve been waiting for an answer for awhile.
