Hello there,

I installed FC4 on a rather old Compaq P2/400 MHz - just the minimal version - textmode only.

Some time later I thought it would be nice to listen to my mp3's on that machine, so I installed mpg123 which told me, that there is no sounddevice.

Since I had no idea how to install the GUI I let yum search for "kde". I used "yum install kdebase" which surprisingly worked :)

StartX brought up KDE - but limited to a max. resolution of 800x600 and still no sound.

Now I'm stuck. I couldn't find something like a Devicemanager from Windows. I hope somebody can help me out.

Thanks in advance!

there's usually something along the lines of "Soundcard Detection" hidding in the System Settings menu. If not try running /usr/bin/system-config-soundcard

Thanks!
I tried that, but it didnt work.

I burnt those other 3 CD's and reinstalled the system. Now at least Video is working fine. My linux's now running with 1152x864 pixels :)

But it still refuses to play music.

It tells me, that i can't detect my soundhardware.

It's an "ES1869" chipset. Googling for linux and es1869 didn't bring up much :(

Any more hints for me?

Thanks in advance!
