The FC5 browser seems slow like the IPV6 time out problem but I can not see a seperate IPV6 service nor a network alias or anything to turn it off. (i''m assuming it is on, but I don't see anything to indicate it.)

Edit /etc/modprobe.conf
Add these lines to the file:
alias net-pf-10 off
alias ipv6 off
In my modprobe it is in this section:
# Linux-ABI
alias char-major-30 abi-ibcs
alias binfmt-0004 binfmt_coff
alias binfmt-332 abi-ibcs
alias binfmt-518 abi-ibcs
alias binfmt-002c abi-ibcs
alias personality-1 abi-ibcs
alias personality-2 abi-ibcs
alias personality-3 abi-sco
alias personality-4 abi-wyse
alias personality-5 abi-ibcs
alias personality-7 abi-ibcs
alias personality-13 abi-solaris
alias personality-14 abi-uw7
alias net-pf- 10 off
alias ipv6 off

Thank you, sailor,
I remeber that now but the modprbe.conf is a lot different in FC5.
It seemed to work but was still slow.
I install Fx, Tx, in my local space from the 1.8 branch - a bit more updated.
Hard to tell any speed up on this Pent II but it seems a bit quicker.
I'll try the extentions next, it may be the scripts slowing it down?

How about this fix from awhile back (this was something to do with browser performance):
1)Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
2)Right click any line to bring up a sub-menu
3)Choose "new">"integer"
4)paste "browser.cache.memory.capacity" into the dialogue that appears(without quotes)
5)Next click Okay
6)Specify the amount in kb (about 60000 should do) in the next dialogue that appears
7)Restart Firefox and happy surfing.
I also use the "fasterfox" extension to optimize firefox.

According to the polls in washington each application does not need to be adjusted if the network is adjusted. :)
I think it was the kernel 1806, after I installed 1807 the whole system was quicker and smoother.
thanks,
SJ
