Hi everyone,

as already implied by the topic, my Canon PowerShot A520 digital camera is recognised as Canon IXUS 50 by gphoto2 although gphoto2 --list-cameras says that my model is supported. I have also written the output of /usr/lib/libgphoto2/print-usb-usermap to /etc/hotplug/usb/usbcam.usermap. The problem is that as a normal user, I don't have sufficient priveleges for accessing my cam (root works fine) because hotplug doesn't seem to set the rights to the given device since obviously it is looking for an IXUS 50 but is unable to find it. Or am I wrong there? Any hints?

Edit: Strangely, gphoto2 recognises 'IXUS 50 (normal mode)' while the entry for the PowerShot A520 says 'PTP mode'. Shouldn't this cause that the camera can't be used by root as well? I mean since the A520 seems to use PTP mode ... well ... :)

I was able to get my photos off a Canon PowerShot A520 in my normal user account without having root privaleges. I didn't install any drivers or anything, a GUI just came up when I plugged in through the USB connection. I do remember it saying something about PTP mode. Can't be too much help at the moment... Just saying that I've been able to get it to function (just a couple minutes ago) and I'll look into what it was that I used.

Good luck.
