I am very new to linux so please be patient. I got fedora core 4 and it is up and running ok. The computer is an old hp and I decided to junk windows because it was running so poorly.

The problem is I cant get onto the internet. I can go up to the search bar in mozilla and type in 192.168.0.1 and it pull up the info from my actiontec modem. I can only asume that this means that the computer is talking to my modem???

What am I doing wrong??

Have you tried to run the Internet Configuration Wizard from The Applications>System Tools menu?
If not what have you done to configure your modem? If you have a external serial port modem on the 1st serial port it's linux device name will be /dev/ttyS0. Let the board know your hardware specifics.
Hope that helps.

Does your ISP require you to login or is it an always on connection ? If you need to login, you'll have to setup the connection as jamdusr mentioned or using adsl-setup in the Terminal.
Check your network settings, particularly the gateway.

When I go into the Internet Configuration Wizard it gives me a list of Ethernet cards, I chose the one that said "3Com Corporation 3c905B 100BaseTX [Cyclone] (eth0)" , I also told it to auto obtain the IP address with "dhcp" and to auto obtain the DNS. After I did this I still cant get onto the internet I can only go to the 192.... address and that takes me to my modem configuration page.

I dont know how to look up my hardware specs. Could you please tell me how to find them?

I dont have to login with my ISP on my laptop.

Someone who is using the same ISP are you are will probably be able to solve your problem in a jiffy.
Check if you have obtained an IP address with
ifconfig
Check if your modem, the 192.....address has been set as the default gateway
route -n

As I had asked earlier Does your ISP require you to login or is it an always on connection ?
Is your connection an ADSL one ? If it is so then in the Internet Configuration Wizard, choose to setup a xDSL connection or set it up using adsl-setup in the Terminal

Had the same issue come up on my system. The only browser I could get to work until last week was Konquerer (I normally use Opera.) Its not you its the install you need to get updates but your in a catch 22 because the system is not correctly resloving DNS yet.
Here's what I did to fix it. I went out and got the IP addresses of the RPM repositories I needed to access and put those into yum's config file and then updated my system. Everything worked great since. Sorry I no longer have that IP list. (Way to much paper I keep track of now.) However if you need help I am willing to get them again and give more specific instructions.

After you used the "Internet Connection Wizard" to setup you DSL connection, did you open the "Network Device Control" menu and see if your DSL device is listed, if it is, try to activate from there. Also you can highlight it and do all the configuration for your ISP also.

When I go to the page 192.169.0.1 It pulls up my modem I can go and look at the status of my moden and it gives me this list

General Status
Firmware Version: xxxx
MAC Address: xxxxx
WAN xxxx
Connection: xxxxx
Mode: xxxx
IP Address: xxxx
Subnet Mask: xxxx
Gateway: xxxxx
DNS #1: xxxx
DNS #2: xxxxx
LAN xxxx
IP Address: xxxxx
Net Mask: xxxxx
DHCP Server: xxxxxx

Except for there are numbers where I have placed x's. Can I use these numbers to set up my internet connection??

Could you please tell me what I need to do to put these into my yums??

Could you mabe give me a web page on where I can read more about what yums are/do?? I will try to do some reasearch on my own but it seems to help if someone could point me in the right direction.

Like I said I am very new to linux and would have to say I am not the best with computers but I am trying to learn.
