I am wondering which IDE or SATA controllers I should look for in my server. It is an 867Mhz G4 (Quicksilver) running Fedora Core 4. I am not sure, but I think I have the most recent kernel
installed. (Typing this from my PB on OS X.) Anyway, I am not sure if I need to look at the cards that are specifically Mac cards (Sonnet, Acard...) or if any of the x86 variants will work. I already have 4 drives in the machine, and want to add a few more, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

with a fedora patched kernel (i.e. the one you are already using) there is no problem supporting any SATA apple controller. Those kernels are made always work and support as many hardware as possible. This is basically good, but leads to some side effects that I don't have time to explain here. They have a mall impact on the system behaviour and, anyway.
If you want to compile a fresh vanilla kernel you might choose to only include the proper driver in the kernel while running make config.
use google to discover the one you need.
