I am having problems getting X to run on a Dell Poweredge 1800 with onboard ATI Radeon 7000. I initially installed Fedora Core 4 (64-bit) with no problems but after a few reboots, X occasionally won't start - it just loops if I boot to runlevel 5. I have tried the drivers from livna.org and it does not detect my card. I don't think they support this card, do they?
I have tried tweaking the settings in "system-config-display" and editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and sometimes X will start but just when I think I have found the magic settings, the next reboot will not be successful. I have also compared the xorg.0.log from a good boot as opposed to a bad boot and they are identical.
I am considering a few options because I am getting frustrated.
Should I just install another version of Linux and hope X will work properly?
Should I buy another video card?
Should I try to downgrade to a previous version of Fedora Core?
I have also considered just using this as a server for remote access and not even using X.
I have had no other problems with FC4 and really would like to find a way to stick with it.
Any help would be appreciated.
