Am I the only one still with this problem?

My CD-ROM reader (in a Dell Inspiron 8100) stopped working ever since I installed fc4. I went with many kernel updates with only different variation of the problem. It ranges from the CD not mounting to crashes when booting the the system with an CD in the drive. The drive, of course, works under MSWindows and even booting from a FC4 installation CD.

Currently I am running kernel 2.6.13-1.1526_FC4. Also I reported it as a bug which eventually was folded into this:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=162347

Bug fixed, but I am not sure if the fix made it into these latest updates. But everyone else stopped complaining ...

Typical log goes like this:
