Hi All

Has anyone have FC4 running without intermittent lockups?

I had experienced lockups on Ubuntu Hoary and made changes to xorg.cong and replaced i810_drv.o with that from http://www.fairlite.demon.co.uk/intel.html and changed grub.conf with apm=off acpi=on and it worked perfectly.

The problem with Ubuntu is that the community is still to small and you just can't find updated software even with the Backports initiative. So I'm back to Fedora and probably want to stick with it going forward but if I apply the same changes I still have lockups.

Can anyone with experience on the S50 or any of the ThinkCentre boxes please tell me of their experiences and what was done to solve lockups?

These lockups only happen every few hours which is very strange

Thanks

Intel 865G?
There are several optional chip sets.

They are the touchest boards i've ever seen. It took Intel a year to admit all the problems and post fixes for some.
But updating the bios is a must. They are on version 24 or so.
No cheap memory either. And finally, check you erata on the CPU (date mfg to error known).

Hi SlowJet

Have updated the BIOS with the lastest on the IBM site about a month ago

Ran test on the Mem but the cheap and nasty desktops don't come ECC Mem

w.r.t:

And finally, check you erata on the CPU (date mfg to error known).
Where would I find this info?

Thanks

Sorry, I missed the IBM part.

They would be coding their own bios and I think they have mfg right to make Intel cpu's and it is most likely a M type.
So you would need to do it all through IBM and the product site.

Another layer of bugs i'm sure.

What is the video on that/ Intel Extreme Graphics or and IBM ATI gissmo?
Linux driver on those - I can't see them being up to the job as far as stablity.
Does IBM say that they work with Linux?

OK, I checked the Intel site and I think I get what is going on now.

I810 video driver is for Intel Extreme Graphics. (The oldest EXtreme chip set. Lowest common platform.)
There is 815, 830, 845, 852, 855,

and then 865G for extreme Graphics II

So a linux driver for the specific chip set would need to come from Intel (IBM) to be fast and uptodate.
Intel has a bunch but only for RHEL 3 and 4, no FC4, 5

Man, was the ball ever dropped on this tech wave.
